Signatures of Artists
In 1901 C Hubert Letts published a large volume entitled “The Hundred Best Pictures—-A visit, at home, to the picture galleries of the world”. It was very successful and went to many editions. The prints were inserted in such a way that they could be removed and framed or put in an album. They were all beautifully printed, in black and white or brown and white. Some friends kindly gave me a copy recently; there was some discolouration and a number of prints had been removed, as invited. At the end of the print section I was very taken with two pages of signatures of artists. I have no idea how they were assembled. They are so unusual that I decided to put them in the Gallery.
